Kosieradzki Smith Files Law Suit Against Extendicare

By Kosieradzki Smith Law Firm / August 9, 2012

Extendicare owns and operates 244 senior care facilities in North America, including eight nursing homes in Minnesota.  One of the Minnesota facilities is the Texas Terrace Care Center in St. Louis Park. The Kosieradzki Smith Law Firm filed a lawsuit on behalf of their client against Extendicare on July 13, 2012 in Hennepin County. [Court file 27-CV-12-14685].  Texas Terrace Care Center and Extendicare’s other Minnesota nursing homes have a significant history of deficient care.

The law suit involves a nursing assistant who left our client seated on the edge of her bed unattended.  Due to a recent brain injury, our client was in the nursing home for post-hospital rehabilitation and required the assistance of two caregivers to safely transfer her.  Our client fell from the edge of the bed to the floor, fracturing her right hip and femur.  As a result, she underwent surgery to repair her fractured hip and developed an infection at her surgical wound site. She has been unable to regain her past level of function and now requires a mechanical lift to be transferred. She has incurred over $119,000.00 in medical bills.

The law suit seeks to hold the Extendicare enterprise accountable for its failure to provide appropriate care as a result of corporate decisions not to adequately train the staff at Texas Terrace and not to have sufficient staff to provide the necessary care.
